32 Things: Simplicity 2724

32 Things Project
19 Items Made
73 Days to Go

OK, so I'm a little behind on this.  I have four additional projects to show you, so I'm really at 23 items made with 73 days to go, but I still think I'll baaaaaaaarely make it to all 32 in time.  Oh, and I've also decided that for every garment I sew myself, I'll make something for charity.  Probably just a quilt square, but more on that another time.

I'd made this dress before with rather disastrous results.  It was bad.  Really, really bad.  Still, I loved the color combo so I kept it around until I finally got the gumption to make the damn thing again.

I remember Googling this dress pattern when I'd first made it to see what other folks had come up with when I ran across this blog and the idea to omit the facings in favor of binding the neckline.  Some of you may be familiar with Ms. Erica B.  She's fierce and one hell of a seamstress.

So, fast forward a year and here we are with a new dress!

I used China Silk for the top.  Technically that's a lining fabric, but I loved the color so much and really, I don't care about crap like that.  It's my dress -- I'll make it with whatever I wanna.  However, since it's a thinner fabric, that's another reason I needed a full lining and not facings.  No good having a work dress if shows your bra, amiright?  Unless by work dress you mean work dress, then go for it sister.

I also changed the slit in the front to two slits in the back.  I'm not in love with the way they turned out... perhaps the french seams were a wee too bulky, but it's also just my very critical eye.  Not to mention that I look like a linebacker in this picture.

So yay!  If I had these results the first time I made this dress then I would have been super happy.  Still, we learn best from the mistakes we make, right?  :)

I also cannot wait to show you this other dress I made!!!!  SUPER cute!  Here's a ruffly preview:
