32 Things: Cowl Top

32 Things
15 Pieces Made
126 Days To Go

I'm almost halfway done!  I whipped this top up lickety split last night so now I can wear it with my dreamy eyelet skirt.  The pattern (free from Burda - available HERE) is lovely and straightforward.  There were two pattern pieces and maybe five steps, one of them being "Cut out the pattern pieces".  Seriously folks, this is a great, easy (and FREE!!) pattern.  There were a couple of items I'd change, but I will undoubtedly make this top again (maybe as a dress).
I used a lovely, lightweight grey cotton jersey.  I don't know the fabric content, but there's undoubtedly some synthetic in there.  It's got this nice, subtle sheen that makes it look soft and feminine.
It's a little thin though, which adds to a clinginess on the back fat.  Trust me when I say this is THE BEST picture I got by far.  I see a major Spanks Alert for this top to give it a nice clean, no-bra straps line on the back, but that's all the fabric, not the pattern.

Let's see... the changes.  Well, I'd make a deeper facing for the cowl, something more U-shaped which I figure is a more traditional cowl shape.  This one was straight, so I had to tack down the cowl to keep the raw edge from showing.  However, the cowl drapes beautifully, and I think it hits just the right depth for not too much cleve.  After tacking it down there were no issues with the raw edge showing.

The only other change I'd make is along the back neckline.  I'd leave it unfinished until the front and back are pieced together, and then I'd roll the raw edge and cowl facing.  I can't say that it'd work flawlessly, but I think it would be better than this.  Of course, if I'd just been more mindful of the way the edges lined up, I wouldn't have the small issue I have of slightly misshapen shoulder seams.  They're really not all that bad though, just a little change for next time.

Overall, it's a great and easy pattern.  I almost wish I'd saved the big fat dollar I spent on this pattern and made a dress out of this Burda pattern.  Though, I think this pattern would feel almost too sexeh for me to wear as a dress to work & it'd get relegated to the back of my closet with this dress

I swear, I LITERALLY didn't wear a bra one single day in college, and now these things feel too revealing?  How times have changed!!!
