More Sunbonnet Sue

I have managed in the past couple of weeks to get myself quite a full load of projects.  I always have lots of them going on (who can only have one garment to sew at a time??????), but I really have lots going on now.  Sewing for myself will have to take the back seat to sewing for others for a couple of months.  EEK!

To tide myself over, I am getting back into the Sunbonnet Sure squares that I promised my daughter I'd make for her quilt.  I made that promise in January.  Four years ago.

Here are blocks 2-5:
Patriotic Sue, just in time for Memorial Day.  God Bless Our Troops!!!!

Veronica wanted the mama hen to be a "mad mama".  Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.  I'll not get into where she gets this notion of "mad mamas".

This one still needs work.  The animals need faces, and I need to embroider some hay into the hay box (the green rectangle next to the all grey cat on the left).

This one is my favorite.  I love the fabric combo, how the Sue is "sweeping" up fabric, and I love the little birdcage.  I used the raw edge applique technique on this, and I think I left a little too much raw edge.  It'll fray quite a bit after washing, so I need to work on my skillz.

You guys have any raw edge applique experience?  Any advice??  I'm a newbie.

xoxo,
